Hotel Babylon ethnicity notes:
They aren't suppose to be working there, they are working in the hotel illegally.
All of the people that work in the hotel are foreign, looking for work to earn money. They may have come over here as they feel their original country is dangerous.
They are all stereotyped as pitied, as they are given jobs because they come from countries that are dangerous, this is reinforcing their stereotypes.
The people in the scene that are English, walk with authority as they know they are not in trouble. Also they are in business dress, where as all of the foreign people have jobs like caretakers and cleaners.
Nearly everyone that is employed as lower class jobs are illegally in the country.
The white people create conflict between them and the people of other ethnicity in the clip, as they take the african man away to be sent back, as he is in the country illegally.
The white people could be represented as dangerous for sending them back to their homelands and all of the other ethnicities in the clip could be unified as they stick together to make sure they aren't caught.
Costume- The people of other ethnicities are dressed in uniforms such as overalls and cleaners uniform, showing they are in lower paid jobs than the white people, as they in business dress, meaning they run certain parts in the hotel and generally other higher up jobs than cleaners.
Props- The african man that got taken away was using a vacuum cleaner, showing he is a cleaner within the hotel, which is low pay.
Dialogue- The cleaners have different accents, such as african. The people with higher up jobs have English accents.
Tracking shots- Showing the person running to tell the illegal workers to hide, showing he has less power than the police who are searching for the foreign people.

Disability write up
Cam-
Panning around him, centre of attention, obsessing over his
annoyance of his brother. Handheld camera whilst the shoots are on the boys
representing teenage emotion. High angle on Ben when theres a low angle on
David in the tree, David has more power over Ben, he is the victim - vulnerable.
Edit-
Fades to show. Prominence on David to show he is more able
through life. Shot reverse shot, between the brothers showing conflict between
them, showing how different they are.
Black and white part, showing evolution and how Ben is different David,
how they evolved differently.
Sound-
He narrates his thoughts, like it’s all about him, David challenges the disability stereotype of villain as he is not disabled. Cheerful
song contrasting against the conflict that is happening in the scene,
representing how everything seems okay on the outside but it isn’t okay. Ben’s
speech is mumbled. Teacher raises her voice over the class cheering, trying to
show authority over the students.
Mise en scene-
Messy side of the bedroom for the Ben, showing he
is less able to do things, representing his state of mind. Contrasted against
tidy side of the room showing his state of mind is organised. Bright coloured pillows around Ben,
showing he has a happy mind set. Plastic gun David points at Ben showing what
he actually wants to do.
The camera pans around David, showing that he wants to be the center of attention as Ben is seen as more important in their parents eyes. Also this shows that David obsesses over how is brother is put before him. The camera is handheld when David or Ben is in shot, showing how they are emotional because they are teenagers. A high angle is used on Ben at the same time that there is a low angle on David, showing David has more power over Ben as he is more able than him. This reinforces the stereotype of victim and vulnerable on Ben.
The fade transitions, are slow and gentle, showing that Ben is slower minded than David. There is more prominence on David that represents that he is more able through life than Ben. Shot reverse shot between Ben and David showing conflict between them, juxtapositioning how different they are. The black and white part edited in shows evolution and how Ben is different to David and how they evolved differently.
Throughout the clip, the dialogue is mostly non diegetic, which is David narrating his thoughts making it seem all about him, showing that he wants to be center of attention for once, as Ben is usually center of attention. This challenges the disability stereotype of villain, as David is the villain, but he is not disabled. The cheerful song before the conflict between Ben and David, juxtaposition of cheerfulness and the conflict. It could also represent how everything seems okay on the outside, but it isn'y okay. Ben's speech is mumbled, showing he is less able than David. During the teachers dialogue, she raises her voice over the class, showing how she has authority over the students.
The two sides of the bedroom are juxtaposed, as Ben's side is messy showing how he is less able to do things, which represents his state of mind. David's side of the bedroom is tidy, representing his state of mind being organised. This could reinforce the stereotype of physically incapable for Ben as he is not capable of keeping his bedroom tidy. The brightly coloured pillows, being orange represents a happy mind set as orange is a happy colour. The plastic gun David points at Ben, shows what David actually wants to do.

The location is within the manor, meaning that the people are upper class and have money, therefore they have power. The costumes that the maids have on are uniforms, so they all have to look the same, but the lady and the lord have different clothes on showing the obvious different in class between the richer and poorer people within the manor. The colours upstairs are gold, which could represent royalty and richness. Upstairs is also very well lit and bright with big windows, representing the upper class as better. Whereas the servants quarters are dim lit and quite dull, this shows they are below the lady and the lord as they have less light.
The dialogue between the lord and the maid, she is corrected by him showing he is more educated than her. The maid also has a northern accent showing she is from a poor part of the country, as the north is seen as all working class and poor people who all work in manual labour. The birds outside are also associated with the upper class as they are heard in shot with the lady of the manor, and as birds are a part of nature, this could mean that upper class are implied to be natural and normal, so anything different isn't normal. The music gets more tense when the maid walks out of the room, showing she is getting more annoyed at the lady, this could show her working class side coming through, as working class people are seen as violent.
The camera is shot so that the maid and the lady aren't in the same shot together, which represents the divide between upper class and working class people, aa upper class people are not suppose to be seen with working class people. The shot reverse shot between the servants in their quarters shows that there is conflict between them, a they disagree with their views on the lady and the lord.
